Shane Trail: What am I Worth?
Talented artist Shane Trail will be showing his latest work in an exhibition entitled “What am I worth” which opens at Healesville Contemporary Art Space. “What am I worth” is the result of 4 years work and will be on exhibit at HCAS in the Yarra Valley from June 7th- July 22nd 2012.
“What am I worth” explores various dimensions of ones perception of Art and money, change and self-worth. Shane chose ’What am I Worth?’ as the name of his latest exhibition, as it relates to the central work of the exhibit and is an homage to Andy Warhol’s One Dollar Bill- 1962. These works are powerful reminders of the economics of the art world and the shifting value of work by famous artists.
Trail’s early artistic expression was in the form of exterior street art when in 1990 he collaborated with revered musician, producer and artist DLT to paint an outdoor mural at Ponsonby Intermediate school (For Television New Zealand for an arts programme segment about DLT) The two also collaborated on an exhibition titled ‘Choice’ in June of 1990 at Art space in Auckland and numerous collaborations: Worcester Bar Christchurch, etc.
From 1992 to 1996, Shane painted and exhibited work in numerous shows in London – in prominent venues such as Art space in Spitalfield Markets and ‘The Union’ private Members Club in Soho. This is Shane’s fourth solo exhibition with his first show resulting in 10 of the 18 pieces being sold on the first night. Entitled ‘Pictures and Poetry’, his original exhibition featured acrylic on canvas pieces all in the Post Modern impressionistic style that predominated his work of the nineties.
In 2002 Shane completed a post graduate course in Spatial and Interior Design at Auckland AUT which has influenced his most recent artwork and which reflects a more textural and minimalist style.
“My work comprises strong textural pieces that convey a minimalist and unpretentious style. The work is very tactile & experiential. I tend to prefer using simple colours with the subject matter originating from base geometrical shapes (the square and the circle)?”, says Trail.
Shane’s artworks are in Private & corporate collections in the UK, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
What am I worth opens June 7th And runs through July 22nd 2012.
